Martin James Bartlett announced as the inaugural winner of the Prix Serdang

25-year old British pianist Martin James Bartlett has been named as the inaugural winner of the Prix Serdang, a Swiss prize awarded to a promising young pianist in recognition of their achievements while forging an international solo career.

The award is curated by Rudolf Buchbinder who, in consultation with international promoters, festival directors, trusted conductors and soloists, selects three pianists with a final prize winner chosen by Adrian Flury and Thomas Pfiffner. The recipient is awarded CHF 50,000 and the prize will be given annually beginning in 2022. Martin James Bartlett will receive the award in a ceremony on 2 July 2022 following a recital in Villa Serdang, Feldbrunnen in North-West Switzerland.

Martin James Bartlett wins first ever Virtu(al)oso Piano Competition - Piano Cleveland 2020

Martin James Bartlett has won first prize in the first ever Virtu(al)oso Global Piano Competition for Artist Relief by Piano Cleveland.

The competition began on 30 July with 30 participants, and Bartlett was announced as the overall winner on 10 August. Bartlett’s performances were filmed and recorded at Steinway Hall in London and were evaluated by the jury as if they were live. The competition was broadcast on YouTube and had a total online audience of 36,000.

In the final round, Bartlett played a programme of Bach/Busoni, Beethoven, Granados and Scriabin. Watch his performance here -

Martin James Bartlett wins Young Concert Artists International Auditions 2019

Martin James Bartlett has been awarded first place at the 2019 Young Concert Artists International Auditions in New York.

Bartlett is among four musicians who were selected by the Young Concert Artists. In winning the audition, he joins the YCA roster for local management in North and South America for the next three years.

The Young Concert Artists International Auditions are held annually to discover and launch the careers of extraordinary musicians from all over the world.

Yuja Wang, Martin James Bartlett & Mischa Maisky perform at the inaugural Riga Jurmala Music Festival

Yuja Wang, Martin James Bartlett and Mischa Maisky travel to Latvia this summer to perform at the inaugural Riga Jurmala Festival, which opens on 19 July 2019. The festival was founded by Verbier Festival's Chief Executive,  Martin T:son Engstroem, and takes place over four weekends at the Latvian National Opera, the Great Guild, and the Great and Small Halls of the Dzintari Concert Hall. At the centre of each weekend are two symphony orchestra concerts from orchestras including the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and London Symphony Orchestra as well as solo concerts and morning concerts featuring rising musical stars. Bartlett is the first Intermusica artist to perform at the festival as he gives a solo recital at the Great Guild on 21 July. He performs a programme drawing on his critically acclaimed debut album, Love and Death, which features music by Bach, Mozart, Liszt, Schumann and Granados. The album received five-star reviews from the Times and BBC Music Magazine and his recording of Schumann Widmung has been streamed over one million times on Spotify alone.
